categories and examples of training and performance aids that we hope
to feature here. The list is not complete. Please feel free to
suggest other categories and specific items.
Weight Training
Equipment
All forms, categorized
according to the underlying technology: constant resistance, variable
resistance, accommodating resistance and static resistance. Examples:
- fluid and electromagnetic machines (accommodating resistance)
- air machines (semi-accommodating, low inertia resistance)
- cam and sliding lever machines (variable resistance)
- pulley machines and free weights (constant resistance)
- throw/release weight machines (low-ballistic constant
resistance)
- isometric devices and techniques (static resistance)
Other Resistance-Training
Techniques or Apparatus
Not involving the use
of built-in resistance sources, but instead manipulating resistance
via the effects of body weight, wind or water. Examples
- swimming against a current
- plyometric training
- resistance stretching
- blocking sleds
- assisted or weighted running, sprinting, etc.
- supportive garb and other similar devices (as in powerlifting)
Non-Resistance
Products
Examples:
- nasal strips
- shoes/sneakers
- timers
- biofeedback products
- specific advancements in athletes' equipment or apparel...
Programs for Training or
Competition
These could be
computerized or in the more traditional printed format. Examples:
- integration of training with diet and supplementation
- periodized programs
- skills programs
Ingestible Ergogenic or
Anabolic Substances
Examples:
- manipulation of diet
- "nutriceuticals" like creatine
- colloidal minerals
- HMB (hydroxymethylbuterate)
Other Products
Examples:
- therapeutic technologies
- psychological strategies
